THE WHY & THE WHO

THE WHY

Whenever I tell people that we spend every summer in Finland, I often get asked:

"Why? What do you even do there? Doesn’t it get boring?"

At first, I’d list the usual activities: grilling, sauna, reading, swimming, boating, fishing, cooking, playing games, exploring. Or I’d try to describe the magic of the endless summer days, the breathtaking sunsets that seem to last forever, or the incredible freedom of having no schedule—just following our own rhythm.

But while all of that is true, it still doesn’t fully capture it. It’s not just about what we do—it’s about the feeling. The vibe. The timelessness. It’s quiescence.

In my daily life, I’m not someone who can just sit and do nothing. I always need to be occupied—reading, watching, scrolling, planning. But after a few days in the Finnish forest, something shifts. I suddenly catch myself sitting on a rock, watching the waves, the wind rustling the glittering birch leaves, feeling utterly at peace.

I realize—I am quiescent. And I am happy.

For me, quiescence is why I return to Finland every year. And if you ever find yourself there, I believe it should be your goal too.

THE WHO

Thomas & Family

Over 40 years ago my Grandfather came to Finnland on a business trip. After spending a night in a Mökki with Sauna, Sausages and Gin he fell in love with it and even with 91 years old, still spends at least a week every summer in Finnland!

Once me, my sister and my brother were old enough to swim, my parents took us as well every summer. Always renting a small Mökki somewhere in Suursavo until they had the opportunity to purchase their own one.

Another 20 years later I was able to buy Kuusimaja which, with the support of my Partner Mira, my family, my Finnish friends and Snoopy, renovated in the summer of 2024.

The goal is to show the magical effect of the Finnish forests to as many current and future friends as possible!
