DETAILS

  • The interior was fully renovated in the summer of 2024, featuring a new hybrid floor, a modern kitchen, updated electrical wiring, and running water.

On the first floor, you'll find the sauna with an adjacent toilet, a cozy living room with a sofa bed and dining table, a modern and efficient wood-burning stove, and the kitchen.

There’s no dishwasher – winters here can be long and harsh, and we haven’t found one that can reliably survive them :)

The water comes from the lake and is filtered, making it safe to drink, though it has a slight natural taste. For the purest experience, we always keep a canister filled with fresh water from one of the local wells – famous for their clean, crisp Finnish water.

Upstairs is the bedroom, furnished with two connected single beds and a quiet reading nook. An open view to the floor below gives the space an airy, spacious feel despite its compact size. The balcony just outside the bedroom is perfect for enjoying an evening drink or curling up with a good book.

  • At the front of the house, there’s a covered porch with a view of the lake, the birch trees in front, and the peaceful “fairy forest” off to the right. The “garden” is really a big clearing in the woods, with a sandy slope that leads down to a small beach—great for swimming or getting the boat in and out of the water.

To the right, a small path winds through the trees and takes you to a rock by the lake—an ideal spot to watch the sunset.

  • Like in most traditional Mökkis, there’s no “normal” shower here. We've been coming to Finland for over 25 years and only added one to our house a few years ago—mainly because the family keeps growing, getting older, and we usually stay for around six weeks. But even now, my 91-year-old grandfather and his friends (who aren’t much younger) still stick to the sauna and the lake!

There’s a simple camping shower—a small rechargeable pump with a hose. You just fill a metal bucket with hot water from the sauna (or the kettle) and mix it with lake water. Then you stand outside on the beach and shower under the open sky. It’s an amazing feeling—something you really have to experience to understand.
